The usage of plant oils as fuel in diesel motors has a very long tradition. Fuel quality and binding DIN standards are an essential prerequisite for the release of engine warranties in the development of plant oil series engines.
It was during the "Porsche test" that Elsbett Construction already realised the negative impact of phosphorous, alkali and alkali earth on the long term durability and emissions of modern diesel units. Since its founding VWP has been a member of all commissions for standards and DIN standards for canola oil and other plant oils.
As the world's only supplier of plant oil engines for many years and a technology leader, VWP has practical experience that makes the continual increase of permitted limit value for phosphorous (P), calcium and magnesium (Ca and Mg), including testing procedures and quality assurance systems necessary. The historical development of plant oil fuel quality requirements from "Quality standards for canola oil as fuel" (1996), the "Weihenstephaner Standard" (2000), pre-standard DIN V 51605 (2006), DIN 51605 (2013) and DIN 51623 (2015) was essentially a development for sinking the parameters for P, Ca/Mg.
The exclusive collaboration with international tractor manufacturer John Deer in Mannheim to develop the Flex-Fuel plant oil engine began the standardisation activities, which are internationally oriented and include other plant oils than just canola oil. As part of the EU project 2ndVegOil, Dr. Gruber worked as the chairman of CEN 16379 since 2009 on the first still unbinding EU pre-standard for pure plant oil.
As a member we welcome and support DIN- NA 062-06-32-02 panel for expanding DIN 51623 to the European standard.
